Friendland Blanket is a cute way to wrap up your baby. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this project will fly off your needles! This blanket is hard to put down and it’s perfect for cuddling and the perfect gift for your friend’s baby! This blanket would make an excellent baby shower present. This blanket works well for either gender and is completely unique.
It could also be an elegant addition to your home decor. Knit in the round, this beautifully constructed blanket is worked from the center out. Extra pattern repeats can easily be added for a larger blanket or shawl.

Friendland Blanket is a one-piece baby blanket worked from the center out counterpane style, in the round, and begins with Emily Ocker’s Cast On. This cast on allows the tail yarn to be pulled tight, all but eliminating the hole at the center. It is a square, worked from the center, growing out to the edges. Although it was designed as a blanket, it would also make a lovely folded shawl.

For brioche newbies, Friendland Blanket could be your first brioche project, as the pattern is full of detailed explanations and lots of video links that show all the stitches and helpful hints. The pattern includes both charts and full written instructions. It provides fully written round-by-round instructions as well as charts so you can choose which you prefer to work from.

Gauge is not so crucial for this design, but if your gauge differs from the pattern gauge, the dimensions of your blanket will be different as well. The pictured blanket was made with Sports weight yarn, but the pattern can easily be worked in DK, worsted, aran, fingering or lace weight yarn too.

YARN: Drops Alpaca (100% alpaca),
50 grams / 1.76 ounces – 167 m/183 yds.

YARN CONSUMPTION:
MC yarn: approx. 4.3 skein (720m /788 yds) colorway Off White (0100)
CC yarn: approx. 4.7 skein (785 m/859 yds), colorway Light Brown Mix (0607) - (including yarn for tassels).
Or use any other Sports weight yarn. Used Yardage 9 skeins - about 1505m / 1646y. Sample blanket weighs approx. 450 gr / 16.2 oz.
Note that if you use different weight yarn or different needle size, the yardage, weight and dimensions of your blanket may differ from mine.

NEEDLES: 3.00mm (US 2 ½ ): DPNs, 60cm/24“ and 100cm/40“ or longer circular needle or 2 circular needles in the round to accommodate a large number of stitches, or size needed to get right gauge. Magic loop method can be used for knitting the beginning sections in the round.
I-cord border is worked with 3.50mm (US 4) circular needles.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Approx 100cm x 100cm, (39“ x 39“) square. Measurements taken from relaxed fabric after blocking.

OTHER TOOLS: 3.5mm (E) crochet hook for cast on, stitch markers (only 1 is required, but if you wish, you can use 4 additional markers for the corners); tapestry needle; scissors; round counter (if needed) ; blocking tools (wires and pins).

GAUGE: 18 sts x 22 rows = 10 cm / 4“ in two-color brioche stitch pattern after blocking.
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use the needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time). (My personal knitting tension is tight).

TECHNIQUES USED: Brioche in the round, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, brkyobrk, brk1, brp1, sl1yo), I-cord Bind-off.

SKILL LEVEL: Adventurous beginner or intermediate knitter. Previous experience of working Basic two-color Brioche is not required, but it is recommended.
