Once upon a time, I received a message from my friend David asking if 1100 yards in Worsted weight was enough to make myself a sweater. I replied “Yes…” A couple of weeks later this gorgeous red tweed handspun showed up on my doorstep. I was immediately giddy and cast on. I wanted the sweater to be available for everyone. So while it’s clearly a lady in the sample, there are special directions so it can be made for a man.

I really wanted this sweater to be a classic. It’s simple, no fuss Raglan styling makes it a quick and easy knit. The cables make it more interesting and a real classic.

  • YARN- The yarn that is in my sample is a 9WPI handspun 2ply but it is comparable to Cascade 220 Tweed. There are several others that would work in this. I chose Cascade 220 Tweed as the Handspun replacement because it’s spot on and it’s easy for everyone to find.

  • SIZING - Men’s S to 2X. Women’s S to 3X according to “Yarn standards” actual measurement of the finished sweaters at the chest are 34(36,38,40,42,44,46,48,50) inches. This sweater is written for women and men. Special notes and measurements for length are given to change the sizing and shape depending on who you’re making it for. Women I suggest zero or a little bit of ease. Men, I suggest 1-3 inches of ease. As always, wear the sweater as you are most comfortable.

BUTTONS - There are 2 directions for button bands. Depending on if you want to use smaller or larger buttons. The photos show my sweater with larger buttons in most of the photos which I decided I didn’t like. I ripped the bands and did smaller buttons. Hooray for extra directions!

POCKET - this is a separate PDF with a tutorial of how to make an afterthought pocket in the manner I chose. There are several ways to make an afterthought pocket, this is just one of them.

As usual there are no pattern refunds so if you have questions please ask before purchasing.
