This simple, quick-finish project starts with a long strip of double crochet, tied in multiple friendship knots and bordered with a double crochet and chain stitch combination. A “double-button” closure gives the cowl enough flexibility to be wrapped creatively, or even worn as a scarf.

• Pattern uses a variation on “chainless foundation double crochet” to add flexibility and reduce extra bulk during tying.

• The center strip can be worked with an assortment of scrap yarns knotted together. When using this “scrapbuster” option, prevent finishing stress by weaving in ends as you go!

• Worsted yarns can vary greatly…if you’re not getting the border coverage you’d like, feel free to increase the number of dc’s to from 5 to 7 dc between knots and from 3 to 5 dc at the start and end of the gaps. (Allow extra yardage with this option)

Special thanks to Maggie Weldon, for her original tutorials on Chainless Foundation Double Crochet!

Left-Handed tutorial

Version 2.0 corrects two errors:

  1. A missing YO in step 1 of my chainless foundation instructions.
  2. A missing entry in the Abbreviations and Stitch Key.

It also adds specific links to Maggie Weldon’s video tutorials.

KAL version specifies that the chainless technique used is a variation, and finetunes the instructions.

My apologies, and my thanks!
