I created this shawl for a mystery knit along in the 2012 Arctic Lace Luxury Yarn Club. I purchased the yarn, A Tree Hugger’s Wife Royal Silk from the dyer, Melissa Highfill, when I was at Seaside Yarns in Juneau, Alaska, on a real knitting cruise in 2012.

The colorway is called “glacier.” With such an arctic pedigree, there was no way I could design something that was not inspired by ice and snow. I designed this one step at a time, the way knitters would experience it as they worked from the mystery pattern. I’ve left the pattern in the format of a knit along, so you’ll find tips for putting in lifelines, measuring the piece as you go along, and so forth.

The PDF also includes an essay about local yarns and shopping for yarn when you travel.
