This pattern is designed for advanced beginning knitters, and requires the following skills:

Casting on and off
Knitting in the round
Knit stitch
Purl stitch
Knitting into the front and back of a stitch (kfb)
Knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog)
Cables
Slip stitches (sl 1)
Passing slipped stitch over (psso)

The following supplies are needed:

9” Circular US size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
US size 8 (5mm) straight needles (optional)
stitch markers
Worsted weight yarn in main color (MC) for hat
Worsted weight yarn in contrasting color (CC) for crown
Darning needle
Cable needle
