With this pattern you can create colorful watermelons, oranges, lemons, limes or grape tape measures. In addition, by following the basic pattern for covering a retractable tape, you can innovate on your own and create all kinds of interesting tape measures. (see last photo) The sky is the limit on your creativity!

Just use yarn on hand—it only takes a small ball (less than the size of a golf ball) to cover the tape. Mostly I have used sports weight or medium weight yarns in acrylic, wool or cotton. Good way to use up small bits of yarn.

This pattern includes color photos and written crochet instructions for these fruits. A list of supplies is also included. A photo of retractable tapes is shown in the 5th photo here. These were purchased for $1 each at Hobby Lobby in the notions department. You can also purchase similar retractable tapes in larger quantities (box of 20, I think) from JoAnn’s).

These tape measure covers or cozies so much fun to make and give (think of the fun stocking stuffers!) that you might find yourself wanting to make many more.
