This pattern was part of Wabi-Sabi, The Beauty of Artisanally Made Yarns, published by Nomad noos. The original version (purple grey) was knit with Nomad noos’ Dry desert camel.

This is a bundle of English and French patterns. Available at a lower price in English alone on my store.

Wabisabi brings to mind landscapes seen in Kyoto, in particular the Zen garden of Ryoan-ji temple and its raked gravel representing wavelets.
The shawl is entirely worked in 1×2 twisted rib stitch and waves are formed and reformed as the rows progress with increases and decreases. I hope you get familiar with the stitch to the extent that you can hear the murmuring of water.
