This shawl pattern is written for beginner knitters as a relatively easy project encompassing stockinette, garter, ribbing, simple lace, and directional (i.e. right and left leaning) increases and decreases. It is worked flat using circular needles. Because it is intended for a new knitter who may have limited supplies and/or abilities, the pattern is written as simply as possible and includes detailed instructions and explanations. It also calls for 300 grams of yarn in order to be a manageable size (shawlette) but more yarn can be used for a larger shawl.

This pattern is offered free, but if you would like to donate or buy me a cup of coffee, I would appreciate it!

Materials:

  • 300 grams (270-340 yards) bulky weight yarn for a small to medium “shawlette” (Can use 500-600g for a larger shawl)
  • US size 13 (9 mm) 32” circular needle (or longer)
  • 4 stitch markers that fit around your needles
  • 1 locking stitch marker
