Welcome to week six of the 2014 Geek-A-Long, a mystery blanket knit-along! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the Geek-A-Long FAQ page. Then, meet me back here when you’re ready. For the old pros, let’s talk about Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck and Anders. (Also, for those of you making every square this puts you at 1/8 done!)

I’m a nerd all the time. But when when it comes to BSG my nerdy underbelly really shows. I can’t talk about it calmly. It would be fair to say my feelings regarding it are strong.

When Jac and I first dreamed up this project months ago, we sat down with a calendar and plotted the themes of all 48 squares before I began actually designing them. We wanted to be able to honor certain dates and it was easier for me to turn out all those charts if I always knew what was coming. We started with holidays and jumped around the year until all 48 of our ideas were assigned. When we came to Valentine’s Day, there was absolutely no question for me on what this square would be.

I know that this is a controversial statement but I feel completely stalwart in saying that Starbuck and Anders is the greatest love story ever told.

Of course, this comes from the same girl that once chose Dr. Zhivago for romantic movie night, so I do tend to have a left of center preference for my onscreen romances. All the same, nothing is more epic than love, and no one is more epic than Kara Thrace.

This weeks square is a representation of their wedding band tattoos. I had a really good time making this square. The patterning was more challenging than most of the others, and I had to try a few different things to get it to look “right”. I think it’s one of those where both sides are equally beautiful but I think I’m going to use blue on gray for my front side.
