Puddles buried this pattern - pattern is retired.

Inspired by the heavens at night, the Galaxy Cowl features the legendary tree of life converted into a cable pattern, with button planets and glass bead stars. This unisex cowl mirrors the scene above while earthbound observers, contemplating the heavens, are wrapped in warmth and comfort. Use any Aran weight fiber that achieves the gauge with this deceivingly easy intricate pattern. It looks more difficult than it is. Only two of the buttons are working, the others are just for effect.

With Cheeky, my Great Dane, not obeying her property line at night, I spent a few minutes almost every night of her life outside on the other end of a leash while she did her business. Gazing up into the stars I was moved to praise and worship God. I designed this cowl with our moments under the stars in mind.

Tech edited by Katherine Vaughan, the pattern includes written and charted directions, a glossary, a note on beading, and pictures. The pattern has been test knit in both animal-fibers of Aran and DK weights. The DK turned out about 10% longer, but otherwise the width was matched.

Still not sure? Here’s a comment by a test knitter about the pattern’s workability:
“The cables are symmetrical and on an 8 row repeat, the beads in the middle portion are a unique design so all you can do is follow the instructions and the chart, and have faith in the designer! There is no ‘pattern’ to them until you look at it when it is finished - and then ‘wow!’.”
