Garden Cardigan is a lightweight cardigan with cropped sleeves and leaf details. It is worked seamlessly from the bottom-up, with raglan sleeve and neck shaping. Cardigan is intended to be open and swingy, and there are instructions for optional i-cord button loops or button flaps. Pattern includes instructions for both a garter stitch variation (pictured in green) as well as a stockinette variation (pictured in red).

Pattern Difficulty: Intermediate (pattern uses increases and decreases, knitting in the round, Kitchener Stitch, and reading from a chart). Pattern instructions are written to accommodate a variety of skill levels, and includes diagrams and “pattern tips” specifically for the adventurous beginner.

Yarn

  • For a lighter, spring or summer cardigan, use a cotton, linen, or bamboo yarn (such as Knit Picks CotLin).
  • For a warmer, fall or winter cardigan, use wool (such as Knit Picks Telemark or Knit Picks City Tweed).

Yardage:

  • For garter stitch variation: 860 {955, 1051, 1148, 1244, 1340}
  • For stockinette stitch variation: 737 {860, 955, 1051, 1148, 1244}

Needles: For garter stitch cardigan US5 (3.75mm); For stockinette version US6 (4mm), or size to achieve proper gauge, 32” circular needle and set of double pointed needles.

Gauge: 18 stitches = 4” in garter stitch (US5 needles) / stockinette stitch (US6 needles) after blocking. Take time to check gauge.

Notions: stitch markers (8), stitch holders/waste yarn, tapestry needle, buttons (optional)

Finished Measurements: see schematic to the left
