From Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet:  The Happy Hooker:

I initially learned how to crochet for one purpose--to make crocheted flowers.  I loved the speed of crochet and the nearly instant gratification and couldn’t stop making them.  When I’d finish one I’d just put it into a drawer, until I realized I needed to get my act together and make something out of them.  So along came Garden Scarf.  It’s a fun, easy project that moves quickly because the flowers are joined together as they are made.  And while it is a scarf, it’s bright, summery and soft enough to wear all year around--perfect for those who, like me, are real wimps around air conditioning in the summer.

Note on gauge:  Each flower = 4.5 inches in diameter.
