This square shawl is designed to use up your stash of leftover yarn. It is knit in 3 sections:

  1. Center garter stitch square is started in one corner with 1 stitch and then increased to the desired width and then decreased back down to the other corner and 1 stitch. Center square measures about 30” per side.

  2. Garter stitch border is then picked up along 4 sides of the center square and worked back and forth around the outside for about 10”. There is a seam at the first corner.

  3. The lace zig-zag edging is attached to the garter stitch border as the edging is knit. Edging measures about 5” wide.

Materials needed:
About 15 skeins of fingering weight yarn OR
About 800 yards fingering weight yarn for center square.
Border can be knit in an assortment of yarns and weights can vary from fingering to worsted
Edging was knit with about 800 yards of fingering weight yarn.

Circular needles size 5 in 24” & 40” lengths.
Double pointed needles Size 5 for alce edging
4 markers with 1 of a different color
