Gemelos Cardigan
The 8 ply Gemelos cardigan has a vintage feel and fit, reminiscent of the 1950s. This cardigan is cropped and fitted, with a high crew neck. You will feel like a glamorous movie star wearing this.
The word “gemelos” means “twins” in Spanish. This is a nod to Talca Tangle’s family roots in the south of Chile. The twins in the pattern are two cats.
The Gemelos cardigan is built using a traditional seamed technique, i.e. each piece – back, fronts x 2, sleeves x 2 – is knit separately from the bottom up, sewn together and then the collar and bands are knit in place.
This pattern is designed for an intermediate knitter. It uses a colour blocking technique called Intarsia. You will be working from multiple small balls of wool at the same time to build the cat figures into the fabric. You will also be reading the pattern from a chart so will need to be confident interpreting charts. The eyes, nose and collar can be knitted in intarsia or if preferred, embroidered by hand after the cardigan is completed.
It comes in 5 sizes: 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. You will need 10-14 50 gram balls for this cardigan, including 6-8 for the main colour, and 4-6 for the contrasting.
Please note all instructions are metric.
