Here comes Gemma’s Cowl, a very quick knit - perfect for gift knitting. It features a combination of lace and cables that is easy enough for someone who wants to try these techniques, but also
interesting enough for someone with more experience. The Chiri Alpakka yarn is pure luxury with its mixture of supersoft and snuggly fibres. Maybe you should just gift it to yourself.

The pattern was named by knitsewcrochet in a contest held in my Ravelry group. Here’s what she said about it:
„It is so beautiful! I immediately thought of “Gemma” = alternative name for Alphecca astr. which is a star in the constellation Corona Borealis (Nördliche Krone) It looks like the northern lights (intertwined lights at the night sky) and cold like ice crystals. I could
imagine the Snow Queen in the so-called fairy tale of Christian Anderson wearing it…“

The pattern has been professionally tech-edited by cupani and test-knit by Dreamchaser0202, grettag47, helenapower and sbodkins00.

Size: 17 cm (6.75’’) wide and 112 cm (44’’) around

Gauge: 2 pattern repeats (29 sts and 16 rows) = 17 cm (6.75”) wide and 7 cm (2.75’’) high after blocking
(Gauge is not vital for this project, but it will affect the size of the FO and yardage.)

Materials:
Rauma Chiri Alpakka (50 g (1.8 oz), 115 m (126 yd), 55% baby alpaca, 22 % superfine alpaca, 23% silk), 2 hanks #010, white

Or approx. 175 m (195 yd) worsted weight yarn of your choice

4 mm US 6 needle, or a size that gives you a fabric you like.
(Designer’s note: I’m a loose knitter, so you may want to try bigger needles if you aren’t.)

1 cable needle

Sewing needle (optional, if you want to sew the ends of the scarf together)

1 spare dpn (optional, if you want to join the ends of the scarf using 3-Needle-Bind-Off)

3/3 RC cable
