In 2015-16, Genesee County made international headlines through Flint’s water crisis. As Flint struggles to address the long term effects, it’s tough to remember that there are a lot of wonderful things in the community. Flint has revived their farmer’s market, has lots of local restaurants providing innovative cuisine, and many historic hotels to visit. The University of Michigan’s Flint campus and small town feel in a moderately-sized urban community make Flint a place that shouldn’t be kept in the box that that media has placed it in.

The boxes shifting around on Genesee’s body give it a mid-century modern look. Two full skeins of yarn will let a knitter create a hat in one color, and the matching cowl in the reverse making good use of every inch of a special yarn. This changing perspective as one color becomes the focus as the other becomes an accent is how Michiganders hope the future of Flint changes…that the focus becomes one of healthy growth in a community that needs a paradigm shift.

A portion of the sales of Genesee will go towards relief efforts intended to support residents of Flint struggling to recover from lead-filled water.
