George is a great project for developing skills in novice knitters because the basket weave pattern introduces use of the purl stitch and gives a good understanding of the right and wrong side of the work. There is no shaping involved, but the construction of the hat still looks very accomplished! The lovely tweed effect is achieved by knitting with two strands of different colour yarn. The colours in the photo are Alpaca Dawn and Alpaca Light, but any combination of Purl Alpaca’s natural colours will give a great result.

George is a really fast project for those with more experience!
