Inspired by a traditional Hap shawl, but entirely modern and utterly wearable. Taking a small liberty with caterpillargreen’s shawl-striping gradient colourway, this is an easy and fun knit, suitable for even the newest lace knitters.

It starts with a quick garter tab, and a nice relaxing section of garter stitch. You then transition to a patterned section, using one of the many variations of the traditional Feather & Fan pattern. There is a little tiny bit of thinking and planning when transitioning to the pattern section, but as long as you’ve got markers and read the instructions carefully, you’ll be fine! And then it’s fun and easy going, and the lower edge is a simple garter, with a nice stretchy bind off.

The design is entirely forgiving of gauge – you work based on the color changes in the yarn.
