Errata: When knitting the thumb, there are a total of 17 stitches (6, 6, 5); 19 stitches total after picking up stitches in the gap.

Note: After completing the cuff, the cable is made every 5th row instead of every 4th row. (Thank you, megknitsalot. 8 April 2013)

These fingerless gloves are based on an old Norwegian lace pattern.

In superfine alpaca they look delicate and feminine, but in a heavier weight yarn they look sturdy and textured. (I really like them in Classic Elite Magnolia.)

The pattern is written with a superfine alpaca in mind.

Needle size depends on the gauge/size you want to make:
7 stitches per inch for size S (~size 1)
6 stitches per inch for size M (~size 2)
5 stitches per inch for size L (~size 3)

The thumbs are positioned to the side, not on the palm, so that the pattern isn’t distorted on the top of the hand.

Special thanks to Cjcrochet1knit2 and JUtleyMail for testing this pattern and sharing feedback and photos with me.

When re-writing the pattern, I may have introduced errors and these are my fault, not theirs.

Please share your mods and suggestions and any errors that you find.

In the future I’ll probably add a chart and also create a mitten version of this pattern.

Enjoy!
