Ginny’s Baby Jacket is a soft, practical baby garment which, because of an adjustable neck and width through the chest, fits an infant from the time he or she is quite small (the sleeves protecting the hands) through months of growth. An ideal garment for the car seat, wide armholes make it easy to slip on and the hood can be popped up when going outdoors. The body of the garment is knit from the neck down in garter stitch with regular increases and decreases to develop the shape. Sleeve stitches are separated out at the underarm, from which point the body and sleeves are knit separately. Once these are finished, the hood is knit from the neck up and joined at the top. All is finished with a lovely and easy stockinette stitch edging that rolls back on itself – fun to see materializing along the scalloped edges. Finish with an adjustable, button on, yarn tie; if desired, a beautiful silk ribbon may be tied over the yarn tie.
