This is a reproduction of the hat worn by the actress who plays Ginny Weasley in the fourth Harry Potter film, Goblet of Fire. It’s as accurate as I could make it from screen shots. Any worsted weight yarn would work, and I don’t recommend the yarn I used simply because it’s a single, and that’s readily apparent when you look at the hat. The yarn for the hat in the film is plied, so for greatest accuracy, a plied yarn would be better.

It’s worked with a tubular cast-on, and there’s a seam up the back. The seam is structurally necessary. It could be worked in the round, but it wouldn’t fit the same way (trust me on this one). Because of this, a simple sewn seam is fine. There’s no need to do a woven or invisible seam. In fact, it wouldn’t match the film hat with an invisible seam.

The hat also requires about 4 yards of a bulky 2-ply of a cream color loosely twined with a light blue/light maroon. Loosely twisting together DK or worsted singles in the right colors would also work. And about 2 yards of a bulky 2-ply in dark maroon or burgundy. Again, twisting together DK or worsted singles in the correct color would also work.
