Girls’ Night Out
In the US the first women’s right convention was held in 1848 at Seneca Falls, New York resulting in the Declaration of Sentiments, a petition for women’s equality with men in social, civil, and political rights. Controversial it was. One newspaper summary of the meeting read “This bolt is the most shocking and unnatural incident ever recorded in the history of womanity. If our ladies will insist on voting and legislating, where, gentleman, will be our dinners and our elbows? Where our domestic firesides and the holes in our stockings?” Seventy-two years later, the 19th amendment to the US constitution nationalized a woman’s right to vote.
