Glenhaven is a contemporary, worsted weight cowl that is worked in the round. It features a variation of the fabulously textured basketweave stitch that I also used for the border of my Glenmont shawl pattern. I loved that pretty basketweave stitch so much I didn’t want to say goodbye! Made up of simple knit and purl stitches, this eye-catching geometric design is an easy and relaxing knit.

Glenhaven is offered in three sizes/circumferences. The Small size with a 22” (56 cm) circumference is perfect for a cozy neckwarmer that will fit nicely into your jacket or coat collar. The Medium 42” (107 cm) size is great for those who prefer a cowl that warms both the neck and chest without being overly long. The elegant Large 49” (124 cm) size works equally well as a longer infinity scarf and can be doubled for extra warmth around the neck. Note that the depth measurement (from cast on to bind off) for all sizes is approximately 9.5” (24 cm). Instructions are included should you wish to further customize the size.

The Glenhaven pattern includes one chart and written out instructions for that chart, so you have the option to work off either depending on your preference.

The Glenhaven pattern teaches newer knitters important skills to take their knitting to the next level. The pattern is filled with informative video links and detailed explanations that will show knitters how to:

• Work in the round on circular needles, using incredibly neat joins at the beginning and end of the cowl that are as close to invisible as they can be without magic being involved
• Control tension when transitioning between knit and purl stitches so that your stitches are neat and even from top to bottom
• Bind off in pattern with broken rib stitch
• Block a cowl worked in the round with no creases and quick drying time (relatively!)

Of course, Glenhaven can also be knitted by experienced knitters who are looking for a relaxing, stress-free project that is perfect for a quick gift, stash busting or social knitting.

YARDAGE: Small 165-180 yds (151-165 m) / Medium 310-330 yds (283-302 m) / Large 355-380 yds (325-348 m). I love how the smallest size can be knitted with one skein of most worsted weight yarns. So that little stray skein can be worked up into a pretty little neckwarmer in just a few nights! Even the other two sizes can be knitted with under two skeins of most worsted weight yarns. If you prefer a size in between the three sizes offered, no problem! Glenhaven’s size can be easily customized to any size you like. Estimates for custom sizes, including yardage and sizes, are included on the pattern. Note that the small size is shown in blue and green, the medium in gold and the large in rust.

YARN INFO: Solid, tonal or heathered worsted weight yarn that provides good stitch definition is recommended to show off the texture of the basketweave pattern to its best advantage. For the main samples shown in blue, gold and rust, I used Cascade 220 Heathers in the Sapphire, Birch and Rust colorways, respectively. For the green small size, I used Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Worsted in the Anacostia colorway.
