I always struggle to find things to knit for summer babies. I live in Upstate NY, way up here in the Adirondacks on The Tug Hill Plateau. Winter knitting is a walk in the park, because it is cold so our babies need all the sweaters and hats. For those warm climate babies, or the summer babies though, it’s tough. Babies still get cold in air conditioning, and we still have very chilly evenings up here.

Pattern Notes:

  1. The body and sleeves are knitted from bottom up, then joined at the underarm and decreases shape the yoke.
  2. The decreases on the front of the sweater are not matched with the decreases on the back of the sweater.
  3. When you come to the yoke it is easy to forget to slip your stitches to maintain the pattern so it may be helpful to add another stitch marker or two just as reminders.
  4. It can be tight working around the first few rows after joining the sleeves to the body of the sweater. I find that magic loop works best for this, but you can also use dpns to make it easier to work around. After three or four rows, it will be easier to work.
  5. If the instructions say to work in pattern, you will continue to slip the slipped stitches with the contrasting color as you work. To streamline the instructions I did not write out each slipped stitch separately.
  6. If you don’t like working Kitchener Stitch you can bind off those stitches at the underarm and seam them after finishing.
