This hat has been thoroughly test knitted! Thank you so much to my wonderful testers! You are amazing!

The recommended yarn for this pattern comes from the oldest woolen mill in Canada, located in York Mills, New Brunswick, Canada. This woolen mill has been at the same location for over 150 years and still produces the highest quality wool yarn. Briggs and Little Sport yarn is 100% wool. Durable and warm, it is perfect for Canadian winters!

The hat is knit from the head band up, in the round, using a long circular needle and the Magic Loop method (16” circular or DPNs if you prefer).

The charted motif is knit using a stranded knitting technique. I have included a link in the pattern to a very interesting tutorial, showing an alternative method of stranded knitting that you may wish to look at…working stranded knitting inside out! This method has many advantages:

a) Your knitting tension is more even (especially when moving from
one needle to the other.
b) Your floats are uniform and loose, creating better stretch.
c) Once you get going, this method is FAST!

The head band is created using Stocking Stitch, which is then folded in half. This creates a very neat, comfortable and stretchy band.

I have included instructions in this pattern to create a Skull Cap style, Touque style or Slouchy style hat version.

Happy Birthday Canada!
