Gnole the Gnome
If you are seeing gnomes, people might accuse you of having imbibed in a little drop of the hard stuff. This is a truly addictive pattern. Quick, easy and infinitely embellish-able, gnomes make adorable decorations, gifts, stocking stuffers, and more. You’ll want to make a village full of these.
Finished Measurements:
4 ½” tall x 2” diameter at base
Yarn Requirements:
10g each of two colors DK Weight (hat and body)
Optional: 3 yards of beard/braid color. Miscellaneous lengths for embroidery or embellishments.
Shown in Dye Monkey Yarns Cha Cha Monkey (54 yards/20 grams).
Recommended Needles:
Size 4 (3.5mm) Double Pointed Needles OR long circular needle for magic loop or size required to get gauge.
Supplies:
Removable stitch marker and tapestry needle.
Any desired accents such as bells or buttons.
Fiber filling and/or weighted stuffing beads for stuffing.
Gauge:
Approximately 28 sts / 36 rows = 4” (10 cm) Stockinette Stitch
More stitches per inch would be acceptable because it will create denser fabric (hiding and holding filling better) and will result in a slightly smaller gnome. Fewer stitches per inch may allow stuffing to escape.
Abbreviations:
St(s) – stitch(es)
Rnd(s) – round(s)
K – Knit
P – Purl
* - repeat stitches between stars as instructed
KF&B – knit into the front, then into the back of the stitch. Increases 1 stitch
K2tog – knit two stitches together
Ktbl – knit through back loop
Notes:
Gnole is formed by first creating the hat, then stitches are then picked up from the wrong side just above hat ribbing and body is worked top down in the round, then decreasing to close the base. Check boxes have been provided after each line of instruction to help you keep track of your progress.
Optional beard is cast on and worked flat. Stitches are dropped to create loops. Beard is then attached under hat brim. Embellish with braids attached at each side if desired. Attach mini pom for nose and or hat decoration. Have fun embellishing your gnomes and giving them character and personality.
