As my significant other is wont to do, he came to me about a week and a half before Christmas and declared that he hadn’t picked up a present for his mother and had not idea what to get for her.
So, as usual, it was Super Knitter to the rescue. Time was tight, so it had to be something that knit up quickly and easily (but was still beautiful). Money was tight, so the yarn had to already be in my stash. I quizzed him on her favourite colours, and went stash diving. When I surfaced, I’d come up with a treasure of self-striping handspun merino and silk.
I chose a stitch pattern that was simple (just one garter row of well-placed increases and decreases) but would make the texture of and colour of the handspun yarn shine. It’s simple enough that you can pick it up and put it down while trying to complete all your other Christmas tasks. You can work on it during holiday visits, while watching a movie, and during any spare moment you can find, making it ideal for last minute gifting.
The simple addition of a few buttons gives it a flexibility the wearer is sure to love. Wear it as a cowl, wear it as a scarf - it’s a knit that’s always going your way!
