When I realized that many knitters prefer not to knit in the round , I decided to take a very similar pattern written for knitting in the round and adapt it for knitters who prefer to knit flat.

It is the simplest in a series of golf head cover patterns I wrote in an effort to work through my stash. Pattern includes instructions for a cover that will fit any fairway wood or hybrid.

All knitting is done with two needles, one color at a time, knitted flat. Pretty much any kind of worsted weight yarn can be used for the cover, holding two strands together. The oval ‘number background’ is done using single strand to knit a rectangle of 100% wool, that is felted (washed and shrunk) and cut into an oval shape. This MUST be done using a wool that felts well. I used Paton’s Classic 100% wool. A glue gun is used to bond the oval very securely to the head cover and stencil and acrylic paints are used to paint numbers on covers.

Instructions include many photos and DESCRIBE EVERY STEP IN GREAT DETAIL, including tips and tricks. Pattern includes specifics on paint and stencils used, neither of which are expensive.
Kitchener stitch is used to graft top of cover. Pattern includes detailed picture tutorial on how to do it.
