The Grace Sweater is a simple, classic raglan sweater with balloon sleeves and purl edge details. The sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round, from top to bottom. The neck, hem and cuffs are worked in a 1x1 rib stitch. The rest of the sweater is worked in stockinette stitch. German Short Rows are used to shape the shoulders and neckline. Stitches are bound off using the Italian bind off technique. To ensure that the neckline doesn’t stretch over time, you can sew in a thin elastic thread along the edge.

The idea behind this design is to have a ‘basic’ sweater for which you can use many different types of yarn, always with the same gauge of course.

I’ve made 3 samples using a different type of yarn, which results in a completely different sweater:
The 1st sample was made using 1 single strand of yarn (‘Sable’ from Laines du Valgaudemar), which is a combination of merino and French angora, which gives the sweater a beautiful all over fluffy texture .
The 2nd sample was made using 2 strands of Pearl Mohair held together (from MAJO Garn), which results in a very light, airy, fluffy texture.
The 3rd sample was made with a classic yarn combination: 1 strand of merino and 1 strand of pearl mohair held together (again from MAJO Garn), a combination that works every time.
The pattern contains a ‘modification option’ for the body: you can choose to work the body straight or with some decreases to get a more tapered shape.

The Grace Sweater is an oversized sweater with a positive ease of approx. 14 - 15.5 cm 5.5 - 6 inches compared to the body bust circumference. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL correspond to a bust circumference (of the body) of approx. 74 (84) 94 (104) 114 (124) 134 (144) 155 cm 29.25 (33) 37 (41) 45 (48.75) 52.75 (56.76) 61 inches respectively. Keep in mind that the final measurements of the sweater already take these extra 14 - 15.5 cm 5.5 - 6.5 inches into account. Ease is a personal preference. Take the necessary measurements to determine the right size for you before you start knitting.
