Pattern description from Wrap Style: “This pattern, the latest addition to Ann Budd’s Grand Plan series of project instructions, features three versions of a capelet worked in one piece from the neck down and shaped with increases along four raglan lines. Presented in easy-to-read chart form, the instructions given here are for three sizes (child, woman’s small/medium, woman’s large), five possible gauges (2,3,4,5 and 6 stitches per inch), and pullover or cardigan variations. By changing the edging , stitch pattern, or increase method, you can get a host of different looks.”

Finished Size: 48 (54, 60)” (122 137, 152.5 cm) circumference at lower edge, 20 (21½, 24)” (51 54.5, 61 cm) circumference at neck edge, and 13¼ (15¼, 17¼)” (33.5 38.5, 44 cm) long.

Yarn: Your choice of yarn.

  • Gauge 2 sts = 1”: 188 (241, 301)yd/172 (220, 275)m
  • Gauge 3 sts = 1”: 323 (415, 518)yd/295 (379, 474)m
  • Gauge 4 sts = 1”: 459 (589, 735)yd/420 (539, 672)m
  • Gauge 5 sts = 1”: 580 (743, 927)yd/530 (679, 848)m
  • Gauge 6 sts = 1”: 821 (1051, 1312)yd/751 (961, 1200)m

Needles: 24” and 16” (60-cm and 40-cm) circular (cir) needle is size needed for desired gauge. Note: 16” (40-cm) cir not required for cardigan version.

Notions: Markers (m); tapestry needle; buttons for cardigan (optional).

Gauge:2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 sts = 1” (2.5 cm).

Note: To use the following chart, you need to choose yarn, determine your gauge (see Glossary, page 151), and pick a size. Gauge (in stitches per inch) runs vertically down the left side of the chart; finished circumference is listed horizontally across the top.
