Pattern description from Folk Style: “Di Gilpin creates an ‘If it’s Tuesday, it must be Belgium’ whirlwind tour of Europe with this bolero vest. The shape is drawn from a traditional Greek waistcoat, and the motifs come from the Chateau de Montresor in the Loire Valley, France. Reports Di, ‘The ancient wallpapers escaped the destruction of the revolution and show the amazing skills of the French wallpaper makers! I allowed the design to develop into the style of Jujol, the Spanish architect who worked with Gaudi, and whose house contained decorations handpainted in this style.”

Finished Size: 39 (40.5, 41.75)“ (99 103, 106 cm) chest/bust circumference.

Notions: Tapestry needle; stitch markers; cable needle (cn); stitch holders

Notes from Folk Style:

  • The waistcoat is worked in one piece to the armholes, then divided for working the fronts and back separately.
  • Work the chars in stockinette stitch intarsia, using separate balls or bobbins of yarn for each color section and twisting yarns together at color changes to avoid leaving holes. Do not strand the unused color across the back side of the work.
