Grandma's Slippers
This was my Grandma’s standard slipper pattern - every member of the family could count on a pair every Christmas, if not more often. They are a comfort garment to me.
They’re very, very easy to make, nice to have around, and a great stash buster.
I wrote down the pattern (deciphering it from an actual slipper), but obviously would not consider myself the designer. My Grandma most likely did not design them herself, either - I’m sure she started with a published pattern from somewhere (much like her famous Gold Rush Brownies started out on an Eagle Brand Condensed Milk wrapper). I think we can call this a “folk pattern,” passed down generation to generation ;)
Yarn, needles and gauge are not prescribed, but open-ended, according to what you have on hand, how dense you want the fabric, and what works best. My Grandma always used acrylic, of the basic Red Heart variety. I find Lion Brand Woolease works very well. But these slippers are a great stash buster, so use what you like!
I’m continually coming up with new variations (getting away from the grandmotherly look somewhat) and will try to remember to post them.
