Here’s a photo tutorial of a good old fashioned granny square for you written in UK terminology.

The stitches are not explained - it’s purely the anatomy of a granny square.

I believe that this is the best method, I start every round in the corner of the square which means that once you get past the first and second rounds, every round is the same.

Some adjustments are discussed at the end - like changing the stitches or the amount of stitches or the colours.
