“You hear that? It’s the Grass Harp. Yeah the Grass! The Harp are voices telling stories; knows everybody’s story. And when we’re dead, it’ll tell ours too. The Wind is us! It gathers and remembers all our voices, then hears them talkin’ thru the leaves and fields…” – Dolly Talbo

The Grass Harp was Truman Capotes favorite personal work.

Construction: Grass Harp is knit top down with increases on both sides creating its crescent shape. When the body is finished, the stitches for Grass Harp’s lace edging are cast on using a knitted CO. The border is knit back and forth joining the last stitch of every RS row together with a stitch from the main body.

Difficulty: The main body of the shawl has a center spine with simple vine lace and faggoting worked on a stockinette background. The edging is knitted-on also with vine lace and delicate edging work. There is pattern work on only one side throughout the patterned portions of the shawl. Grass Harp is a great knit for both experienced lace knitters and adventurous intermediates.

Finished Dimensions: The finished dimensions of the sample are 17.5 inches down the center back and 45 inches from the bottom of the center back to the tips. Measuring across the top when laid flat it measures 62 inches wide.

Yardage Requirement: Approximately 900 yds; I used about 2 skeins of Dream In Color Everlasting Sock. Out of 2 skeins, or 200 grams, I used all but 16 grams. If you are a loose knitter you will need to account for this in your yardage. I have added generous yardage estimates for loose knitters.
