Eagles and seabirds swirl in the skies above the Salish Sea. Your feet crunch on the pebbled beach as you prepare to launch your kayak. What adventures await you on these sheltered, islet-dotted waters teeming with seals, otters, orcas and pods of porpoises?

The Beach Stones hat is a close fitted, cabled beanie that will keep your head warm on a misty morning of sea bound adventure. The swirling cables imitate the miniature eddies that form as the waves are sifted back through the stony beach.

Sizes: size S/M hat fits head 50-56cm (20-22”); size M/L hat fits head 56-60cm (22-24”) measured around the hair line.

Materials needed:

  • 150/165m (165/180y) fingering weight yarn
  • 2.75mm (US2) double point or circular needles or size needed to make gauge
  • 3mm (US 2.5) double point or circular needles or one size larger than needle used to make gauge
  • cable needle
  • stitch marker to mark start/end of round

optional: 9/10 stitch markers to mark repeats. Note that if you use stitch markers for repeats, they will have to be moved on row 63 to accommodate the ssk of each repeat.

Gauge: 32sts and 48 rows = 10cm (4”) 1x1 ribbing worked in the round, unstretched (remember to count your purl stitches)
