This pattern was designed in during my early years teaching for the City of Longmont at the Recreation Department. Students wanted a simple lace pattern to get familiar with how to knit lace.

This design features a 4 row repeat in which every other row is knit - a rest row. The stitch pattern is a 7 stitch repeat. Putting a stitch marker between each repeat allows you to only worry about 7 stitches at a time.

Once you get going you can easily read your knitting and enjoy the results of your work. Since it’s a cowl if there are a couple of “mistakes” in the lacework it won’t show up (likely) to a casual observer seeing it around your neck!
