The Hagrid illusion knit is based on the character from the J.K.Rowling Harry Potter books.
Although the design shown is a shawl it could easily be changed to be a centre piece for an afghan or bedspread or as a panel on a wall hanging.
The fourth photograph shows the view when looking directly onto the shawl.
Photographs five and six were taken by djr1215 (Donna Richmond) of the Hagrid shawl that she completed in April 2010. Photograph seven is of the Hagrid shawl completed by Effi (Martina).
The original Hagrid shawl that I knitted I gave, as a present, to Ann Kingstone. The final photograph is of this shawl hanging in her house.
As well as this charted design for a Hagrid Illusion knit shawl the written instructions are now also available. The conversion from the chart to the written instructions was completed by Donna Richmond.
Both the original chart and the written version are available for download from this page.
The shawl is now on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Baltimore, MD (May 2013)
September 2013 Update
The pattern now includes an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may find it helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
