Errata available:

25-9-2010 An error in the pattern has been brought to my attention: For the small version rows 6 & 7 should be repeated for a total of 18 times instead of 20 for a total of 130 stitches, including the 6 edge stitches. Similarly, for the larger version rows 6 & 7 should be repeated 26 times instead of 28. If you have downloaded this pattern prior to this date, please download the corrected version v2.

28-4-2010 Due to several requests extended charts for the lace border are now available for download. Enjoy!
……………………………………………………………………………………
This shawlette is designed to showcase a small amount of handspun and handdyed yarn. To be more specific, it has been designed to be made with the typical thick-and-thin yarn most beginning spinners produce with the first tries. Therefor the body of the shawlette is plain stockinette followed by a border in an improvised variation of the Old Shale lace pattern. This shawlette works great with handdyed variegated yarns as well.

Any aran or bulky weight yarn should be nice with this pattern. Just keep in mind that the shawlette really needs blocking to lay flat. That means that yarn with a high cotton content probably won’t work well and that high-acrylic content yarns will need steamblocking for the desired result.

The pattern for the lace portion is provided both charted and written out.

Difficulty:
Intermediate, but only because of the use of the pfb increase, otherwise the pattern is suitable for a beginner lace knitter.
