Handy Hearts are a FUN way to keep essential tools HANDY so they are there when you need them.

A sweet little heart keeps track of these tools:

  • Scissors are buttoned on to the heart’s leash.
  • Needles tuck into the knitted fabric.
  • Stitch Markers fasten to the loop on the back. (Hang your non-locking markers from a locking marker if you prefer)
  • Pins also tuck into the knitted fabric.

This pattern is my gift to all of you who watch Knitworthy Podcast. Knitworthy Podcast Ravelry Group You bless Mama Linda’s heart every day!

YARN RECOMMENDATIONS: I used little bits of my handspun, hand dyed yarns from indie dyers, and commercial yarn. Use any weight yarn you wish. The yarn you choose will determine how large your heart will be. The smallest yardage listed is for fingering weight. The largest is for a really bulky yarn. And just 2 additional yards of fingering is needed to make the scissor leash.

EMBELLISHMENTS: The pattern includes many ideas and photos of embellishment I have done on my hearts. However, no pattern for embellishment is included though.

PHOTO TUTORIAL: This is a very SIMPLE pattern to knit but it does require finishing. It’s not hard to finish though. Finishing usually takes me 10 minutes. But I included 3 pages with photos of these easy steps so you may SEE how I do it. I suggest you read through the pattern BEFORE PRINTING it. You may find you really only need to print page 4 which contains the knitted portion of the pattern.

IDEAS: There is a whole page devoted to other uses for these fun hearts! I have been having so much fun making them and dreaming up fun uses for them. I would love to see how YOU choose to use the hearts you make.

SKILLS NEEDED: Magic Loop Knitting in the round, Judys Magic Cast On. A link to a tutorial is provided if you aren’t familiar with these. KFB, k2tog. Some basic crochet is used. Chain and slip stitch. If you want to avoid this step you could use a length of yarn and simply tie your scissors to the heart.

LEGAL STUFF: You may make this pattern for your personal use, for gifts and for small etsy and craft show sales. The pattern may not be sold or reproduced in any form without my written permission. If you wonder whether your intended use is okay, just message me. :)

ERRATA: Though the pattern has been tested extensively by me, it has not been tested by others. If you find a problem or think a correction is in order please message me.
