This sassy, little bandanna has a boho vibe when you tie it in back, and a 1950s retro look when you tie it under your chin. Best of all, you can use any yarn -- from lightweight to super bulky.

Here are approximate yarn amounts for different weights of yarn:
Sock yarn: 133 yd./122 m
DK: 118 yd./108 m
Worsted: 105 yd./96 m
Chunky: 70 yd./64 m
Super Bulky: 65 yd./60 m

Here are suggested hook sizes:
NOTE: A larger hook size will give your bandanna more drape.
Sock yarn: B-1 to E-4 (2.25-3.5 mm)
DK: 7 to I-9 (4.5-5.5 mm)
Worsted: I-9 to K-10½ (5.5-6.5 mm)
Chunky: K-10½ to M-13 (6.5-9 mm)
Super Bulky: M-13 and larger (9 mm and larger)

The band and ties are worked as a continuation of the kerchief, for a seamless result.

One tester described this bandanna as a super easy beginner pattern. It has written instructions, using American crochet terms, and there’s also a chart of the first three rows.

A self-striping yarn -- such as Red Heart’s Unforgettable, which was used for one of the pattern examples -- gives a multicolor granny-square appearance without a lot of ends to weave it.
