Brighten up your kitchen or bathroom this spring with some very happy, stripey towels & dishcloths (or facecloths). After a long, dull winter we all need to be thinking happy thoughts…and these cheery cloths are bound to put a smile on your face! Quick, easy, and very addicting, this project is a great one for using up scraps as well. Hope you enjoy making them as much as I did! :)

Pattern Notes…

• I was able to get one towel and one dishcloth out of two balls (one of each color) of Lily Sugar & Cream Cotton 200 yards/113 grams (my estimates to the right are a little high to give you some wiggle room). These are the larger balls, and I find them readily available in the large chain craft stores.

• Gauge is not terribly important in this project unless you are trying to get exactly the same size towels as I did. But remember, if you are using a lot more yarn than me (knitting at a tighter gauge, denser fabric) you may need more yarn than suggested here to get the same size as I did.

• Always remember to twist your threads at the edge when you are carrying colors!

• Use this project for stash busting! These towels are a wonderful way of using up all those odds and ends of leftover cotton from other projects.

Supplies…

• You will need 2 colors of worsted weight dishcloth cotton. I used Lily Sugar & Cream, 200 yards/113 grams.

• For the towel: Main Color: 150 yards/90 grams, Contrasting Color: 101 yards/60 grams

For the dishcloth: Main Color: 50 yards/30 grams, Contrasting Color: 33 yards/20 grams

• US7 (4.5mm) Needle (or size to obtain gauge), in whatever style you prefer for knitting back and forth

Notions…

• Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Gauge…

• Lily Sugar & Cream 4.5 sts, 8 rows = 1 inch, with US7 (4.5mm) needles, in garter stitch

Size…

• Towel: 14.5 inches wide, 20.75 inches long

• Dishcloth: 7.25 inches wide, 7 inches long

A Note About My Patterns: I encourage teaching from my patterns! Whether you are a local yarn store, knitting teacher, or an individual wanting to teach a group of girlfriends we welcome you to use our patterns as class projects. I only have two requirements. One, that a pattern is purchased for each student from us. And two, that credit is given to me as the designer of the pattern. Patterns may never be copied and distributed for any reason and objects made with my patterns may not be used for financial gain.
