All those pretty autumn leaves make me happy! The colors are beautiful - and even if they mean that winter is around the corner I welcome the fact that I can start wearing knitted accessories again:)). And I enjoy wearing matching accessories - and made up a pair of mittens to match the beanie. Autumn leaves all over……

The pattern
The pattern includes instructions for the hat as well as the gloves. The lace-pattern is both charted and written (round-by-round). There is a small schematic for the mittens.
Knitting skills include knitting in the round, working lace following a chart and/or written instructions. Abbreviations used are k, p, yo, ssk, k2tog, sl1k2togpsso, k1fb, p1fb.

Hat/beanie. I live in an area with heavy, ice-cold winds during the winter-months and I need a hat that covers my ears properly. This hat really work: the fit is great and the DK wool in alpaca is soft and warm. Worked bottom up and in-the-round from the ribbed brim to the top it is a fast and fun knit. The lace-pattern is intuitive and easy to memorize and the crown of the hat is worked with cleaver decreases to give the upper leaves a “star-shape” The hat is one-size, but the nature of the pattern makes it very stretchy and suits most head-circumferences. The circumference of the hat is 45cm/17.75”.

Mittens The mittens are worked bottom up and in the round from the ribbed cuff to the tip of the fingers. You can choose from 2 sizes: small and large. The lace-pattern is the same as for the hat and decreased to shape the “star of leaves” at the top of the mittens. The thumbs are worked from spared sts. The height for mitten from the end of the cuff to the top of the mitten is 17cm/6.5” for the small size, 21cm/8.25” for the large size.

Material I used Ilo-yarns Alpaca Superfine 3/6 which is a DK weight wool in pure alpaca. You might substitute this to a similar yarn in a DK weight as long as you stay true to gauge.
You will need 2 balls of above wool to work the whole set.
