Some weeks ago we took part in a Stitched Science Event at the London Science Museum. We were talking about creating patterns from geometric shapes, how to create illusion knits and why illusion knitting works. This shawl came about as part of that. I wanted a piece of illusion knitting that would show the process and demonstrate how and why it works but would be a piece that I could knit with the minimum concentration allowing me to hold conversations at the same time.

The shawl measures 140cm by 70cm without its border when knitted using Double Knitting yarn, 3.75mm needles and my reasonably tight gauge.

Sections of the diamond pattern on it come in and out of view as you change your position in relation to the shawl. This creates an ever changing and interesting aspect to a wearable object.

Three of the picture here attempt to show this ever changing view and the final picture shows the shawl when viewed flat from directly in front.
