PATTERN NOTES
The scarf pattern is worked modularly. First the solid garter band along the bottom is worked and then the larger striped body is picked up along the edge of the band and worked.

The hat garter band is worked first and then the body of the hat is picked up along the top edge and the body of the hat is worked up. A small tab with the buttonholes is left free.
