  • Tapestry needle
  • F and H afghan hooks
  • G and K crochet hooks

Gauge:

  • With K hook and Aspen Soft: 3 2-double crochet groups = 2 in.; 5 double crochet rows worked in pattern = 3 in.; with 2 strands held together, rounds 1-3 of Hat = 2-1/2 in. across
  • With F afghan hook and Canadiana: 5 afghan stitches = 1 in.; 4 afghan stitch rows = 1 in.
  • With H afghan hook and Canadiana: 7 afghan stitches = 2 in.; 4 afghan stitch rows = 1 in.

Construction:
Hat crown is worked in the round. Hat band is worked flat in afghan stitch, then sewn to the crown.

Scarf is worked flat. Afghan-stitch ends are worked as separate pieces, then slip-stitched to scarf body. Border is worked in the round.
