I really like ribbed hats. They work well for men or women, look good, and are stretchy to accomodate different size heads. This is another of my favorites. It has a little decorative border that looks like (but isn’t) a cable stitch. Very easy. This hat could easily be done using just the pattern rounds for the whole thing.

p1, k2, p1, k2, p2tog - then * k2, p1, k2, p2tog * for the rest of the round.
