I like hats with ear flaps, but I don’t like their typically inelegant construction of having to cast on (or off) different fiddly bits. Here, the ear flaps are created by the valleys of classic
chevron shaping.

This pattern includes instructions for any gauge yarn to fit any size head, with an option for the peak to be pointy or rounded. I find it really fun to knit, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  • Yarn--100 grams of any smooth yarn between 2.5 and 9 stitches/inch.
  • Gauge--As suggested on yarn label.
  • Needles--16” circular and dpns in whatever size you used to achieve gauge. Of course you may use an alternative method of knitting in the round if you prefer.
  • Size--Baby to adult (16-25”), see chart.
  • Skill--Advanced Beginner—If you can increase, decrease, and maintain ribbing then you shouldn’t have any problems.

Thanks to Kathlynn and Judy for test knitting!
