This pattern was inspired by Heahmund, a medieval bishop of Sherborne during the Viking Era. In the show Vikings, the character is a Bishop Warrior with deep faith. He is also a skilled warrior and a man who loves women and drink, and is determined to drive the Viking heathen from Wessex.

This sock pattern was designed for the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry for the January 2018 Mystery Sock, or MOCK, to fit the stranded colorwork challenge. This is a top-down, stranded colorwork sock with a heel flap and gussets. It’s on the feminine side, but some men may wear it if worked in masculine colors.

Because it is a mystery, no photos are present in any of the clues. Please use a spoiler shield as the first photo of your Ravelry project page if knitting this along with the MOCK KAL.

Four Sizes: Small (60/66 sts), Med (64/70), Large (68/74 sts), XL (72/78 sts)
Note: The first number for each size is the number of stitches used for non-stranded sections while the second is the number of stitches used in the stranded colorwork portions of the sock.
Needles: US sizes 1 & 1.5 (2.25 & 2.5 mm) (Or your typical sock needle size plus one size up for the colorwork sections.)
Notions: Removable/locking stitch markers (or you can use small pieces of yarn)

Two colors will be needed. It is recommended that the Main Color (MC) be solid, and the Contrast Color (CC) be solid, semi-solid, or perhaps lightly variegated.

  • MC: 75-90 grams
  • CC: 30-50 grams

The pattern will be released as a series of four clues, one each week starting January 1st.
