Health Blanket by Hayley Joanne Robinson

Health Blanket

This pattern is available as a free Ravelry download

You’ve heard of the Temperature Blanket and the Sky Blanket, and now, here is the Health Blanket!

This recipe pattern can be used to create any size Tunisian Crochet Blanket, Shawl or Scarf, where the colour of each row depends on your health that day.

I suffer with Fibromyalgia, Anxiety and Depression, and every day is different. Some days I am in bed all day and other days I manage the day well. Designing this pattern made me realise what can make my symptoms worse, and how varied every day is for me.

This pattern can be used to reflect on all kinds of health issues: physical or mental, permanent or temporary. If you don’t have any health issues, you can use the pattern to reflect on your own well-being.

How It Works
Simply choose a colour scheme of up to 10 colours, and a matching definition for each colour that suits you. A helpful chart is provided with the pattern for keeping track of your health each day and your progress on the Blanket, Shawl or Scarf.

Size
You can make any sized Blanket, Shawl or Scarf.

Materials
Any yarn you like.
A suitable size hook for your yarn.

Throw Blanket Example
140 days of data was used with a colour scheme of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple and Black, where the sunnier colours signified good days and the darker colours signified bad days.
Measures 42 inches wide (54 inches including fringe) and 47.5 inches long, used about 820g of Aran yarn in total.

Infinity Scarf Example
126 days of data was used with a colour scheme of 7 different shades of Purple, where the lighter shades represented good days and the darker shades represented bad days, resulting in a modern, transitional striped effect.
Measures 6.5 inches wide with a circumference of 55 inches, using about 185g of Chunky yarn in total.

Shawl Example
I’m going to make a Shawl next time, using yarns of the same colour but of different fibres and textures, so the differences will be subtle between plain, soft and fluffy textures.
