Heart of My Heart Placemat II for Brava is a 5 page PDF versatile crochet pattern featuring Brava Worsted Weight yarn in perfect Valentine’s Day shades of Red, Rouge, and White. The Heart motif is crocheted in the round beginning with a heart-in-heart bold Rouge center, surrounded by the deep Red outer heart, and trimmed in a graceful, ruffled, White border. The finished Heart is sewn to the Background which is separately crocheted in Rouge rows, then finished with White and Red edging rounds.

NOTE: This pattern was designed for Brava Worsted yarn. I have designed and listed another identical looking pattern for Red Heart Super Saver, which is a somewhat heavier worsted than typical worsted weight yarns like Brava. Heart of My Heart Placemat Pattern is very similar to this pattern with a simpler background construction than this pattern. If you plan to use Brava or a similar worsted, this pattern for Brava is the best option. If you plan to use Red Heart Super Saver or a similar heavier worsted weight yarn, I’d recommend my other pattern.

The pattern works in several fun and exciting ways. Instead of using as a placemat, hang the finished work as a decorative wall hanging. Use the heart motif alone as an applique. Change up the color scheme for a distinctive look or to match any décor. Consider burgundy, orchid, and ivory hues for a more Victorian look; tones of cream, taupe and ecru for an earthy feel; or, perhaps, shades of purple for a whole different vibe! Bonus idea: Make a second backing to join and create a pillow! Endless possibilities!

The finished Background rectangle measures about 14.5” wide by just over 12” high. The Heart is about 9.75” across at the widest place and just over 8.25” high if you measure between lines extended from the top of the curve and the bottom point.

Skill Level: Intermediate. Some experience helpful.

Materials:

Hook: G Hook (4.25 mm)

Gauge: 6 stitches and 3 rows in Double Crochet with Brava Worsted Weight yarn equals a little less than 2”. If you use a different yarn, adjust hook size if necessary to get the proper gauge and size.

Yarn: 1 skein each of Brava Worsted Weight yarn, 218 yards per skein, in Rouge (105 yds), Red (70 yds), and White (40 yds) NOTE: yardage is for 1 placemat or wallhanging. For additional placemats, multiply yardage per mat. For a pillow, double the yardage.

Tapestry Needle, Yarn Pins (recommended), Stitch Markers (optional)

For Wall Hanging: About 13” length of a 3/8” diameter dowel. A dowel can be purchased in a 3 foot length from craft stores and easily cut (very carefully!) to size with a small hacksaw. Dowels are also sold in home improvement stores and sometimes they will cut it for you. Other options for hanging are grosgrain ribbon, jute, or yarn, however, a dowel keeps the work from sagging. For Pillow: Fiber fil.
